As Buddhism comes into the west we have taken great interest in the traditional teachings of personal transformation, and at the same time a great interest in the possibility that this can be activily combined with a strong desire for social change and dynamic service.
Now that the world is communicating across vast oceans, mountains, and cultures there is an amazing dialog arising effecting Buddhist traditions very deeply. Bringing the high art of meditative training out of the monasteries, the forests, and the mountains and giving it dirrect contact with social and environmental change and suffering has created a new (or revived an old) tradition of pursuing both the inner and outer transformation with equal and mutually dependent passions.
Such great teachers, authors, and speakers as the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hahn, and Joanna Macy have lead the way for the radical opening of such spiritual paths.
Please share your own involvement, questions and inspiration!
